We’ve enjoyed an exciting season of Color of the Year announcements, from Behr’s deep black-gray choice to Pantone’s peachy pick to half a dozen brands in between.

We can’t wait to see how each one is implemented in 2024. While some of these hues are predicted to be the stars of the year ahead, other colors are waiting in the wings to complete the perfect palettes.

With this in mind, we turned to a few of our favorite home decor experts and interior designers to find out what paint trends we’re about to see in our feeds.

While some we’ve also been eagerly anticipating, there are a few surprises in store, too.

Warm and Bold Tones

According to Orlando Rodriguez, the design director of Whitehall Interiors, 2024 will be all about softly saturated palettes in jewel tones and vibrant neutrals.

“When muted blues and lilacs are paired with creams, rosés, and honey colors, they create a soft yet bold look that adds a warming touch to any room,” he says.

Ashley McCollum, color expert for the paint brand Glidden, agrees. She notes she’s excited to see cool grey neutrals take a backseat for a minute.

“Glidden’s Color of the Year, Limitless, is a fresh warm hue that holds the power of a primary color and the essence of a warm neutral,” she says, before noting that warm neutrals like this are especially perfect for their versatility.

Greens are Here to Stay

With biophilic design trending for years now, it’s no surprise green is still a favorite. But Paul Kropp, co-founder at Bakes & Kropp, predicts it’ll continue to rise in 2024—in all its versatile variations.

“I expect green to be big in 2024,” he says. “From deep forest green that gives a very proper look to light pastel green for more of an airy feel, it’s a truly versatile color.”

Sharon Blaustein, the founder and principal designer of B Interior, agrees. She’s super excited to see moody, deep greens take the paint world by storm.

Blues are Back

As Dan Mazzarini, the principal and creative director of BHDM Design notes, while warmer shades of reds and pinks might be dominating our feeds for a while, that doesn’t mean blues are out.

Mazzarini predicts specific tones, like powder blue and aquamarine, will be in the spotlight, and unlike previous blues in recent years, 2024′s picks will probably skew warmer.

“While we’ll still be seeing the dusty, organic palette in the new year, blues will have their moment,” says Mazzarini. “I love a cornflower blue and can’t wait to play with Benjamin Moore’s color of the year, Blue Nova.”

McCollum agrees, noting Glidden’s own Aquamarine Dream is one shade she can’t wait to see more of next year.

“This calming seafoam color is reminiscent of a spa and richer than a cool blue,” McCollum says. “It makes for an exquisite all-over room paint color, especially when paired with off-white trim.”

Bold Color Combinations

While we’ll always appreciate a neutral base, Mazzarini suggests 2024 will lead us all toward more daring color combos. His personal favorite? Periwinkle and orange.

“I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to do it, yet, but it’s a beautiful, bold palette that’s empowering and eye-catching at the same time,” Mazzarini says.

McCollum agrees that 2024 will be all about the surprising combos. She says it could be the year of breaking boundaries between warm and cool colors.

“I think we’ll see honey beiges paired with both warm and cool tones, from warm reds to calming blue-greens,” McCollum says.

Blaustein makes a similar prediction, noting that wall and trim are in for some season contrast.

Surprising Uses of Color

  • McCollum notes another surprising trend she predicts for 2024. It’s not simply the colors that will surprise us next year, but how they’ll be used.

“We will see a continued use of painted murals and bold wall patterns mimicking the look of wallpaper with paint,” she says.

Jennifer Verruto, the founder and CEO of Blythe Interiors, agrees, noting monochromatic and minimal designs will be replaced by eye-catching uses of color in new, exciting ways.

“We’re seeing more of an exploration back to the bold side,” Verruto says. “Color-drenching, rich textures, and invigorating patterns are taking center stage.”

Next year is not just about creating daring, exciting rooms covered in color. Verruto notes that these exciting trends are being tempered in a balanced, streamlined way.

“While bold design choices are being made, they’re still being balanced with simplicity and a dose of minimalism that creates harmonious and exciting spaces,” she says.
