This year gave us so many different aesthetics and home trends that it’s tough to see how 2024 could bring us anything more—or at least anything different.

Thankfully, the folks at Etsy have been carefully watching our searches, purchases, and sales to figure out what 2024 has in store for us.

There are plenty of home trends we’re likely to see this upcoming year, but one trend Etsy predicts will take over in 2024 is romance.

“As we look to the new year ahead, we’re captivated by the theme of romance and the growing trend of ‘romanticizing’ life that is emerging, perhaps in response to the unpredictable state of the world we live in,” Etsy says in their announcement post.

With that, we’re diving into Etsy’s top trends for 2024—including their selection for Color of the Year, Berry.

We’re Berry Pleased With the Color of the Year

Etsy’s 2024 Color of the Year is Berry, more reminiscent of a berry popsicle than any actual berry you might have seen in the wild. Think of deep purples, rich reds, and sometimes even a hint of blue or violet.

The color is closely associated with that “romance,” theme Etsy is spotting, but it’s such a deep, vibrant tone that the color oozes with velvet-like quality, no matter the fabric it’s on.

Etsy says that searches for hot pink decor items declined by 58 percent, not because no one wants pink around anymore, but because our color obsession might be moving away from Barbie pink and towards a more mature hue.

If Etsy is right, we should see a lot more Berry around in 2024, coloring everything from the clothes and accessories we wear to the towels, duvet covers, and coffee cups we fill our homes with.

Denim Is In

This prediction is bringing our pants out of the closet and onto the dining room table. There are over 16,000 denim home decor listings on Etsy right now, including placemats, quilts, custom wall art, upholstered furniture, and much more.

The approach for using denim in your home decor is to consider it neutral instead of blue, just like you might when you’re putting together an outfit. You can use denim to call back to the 1970s or make your home look crafty and comfortable.

The appeal of a good pair of denim pants lies in its comfort and versatility, so think of denim home trends the same way and use the fabric to evoke a sense of laid-back style in a home setting.

Gallery Walls Are Out

Gallery walls have been a decor staple for decades, and it might be time to phase them out if Etsy’s predictions are correct.

Because home decor trends evolve, what was popular in the past always falls out of line with future design sensibilities—and we might be seeing that in real-time with gallery walls.

There has been a 16 percent decrease in searches for gallery wall items, but an increase in searches for large framed art pieces, mini prints spread far apart, and even leaning art against a wall.

Statement Bathrooms are In

In 2024, statement bathrooms are set to shine as their anticipated moment arrives. Etsy searches reveal a 21 percent surge in interest for vibrant bathroom art, accompanied by a 13 percent rise in distinctive vanity lights.

Notably, there’s a doubling in searches for eye-catching wall hooks.

Both shoppers and designers are leaning towards bathrooms with a playful, funky, and colorful vibe, signaling a departure from the serene, spa-like aesthetics that have dominated recent years.

However, the focus on spa and self-care hasn’t diminished. In fact, with the romantic vibes of 2024, there has been a notable uptick in interest on Etsy. Searches for glamorous wall mirrors have surged by 30 percent, and there’s a 16 percent increase in the popularity of spa-like stone sinks.
