When a designer designs a piece of furniture, there are four main goals. You may not know them, but they are an integral part of the furniture design process. These four goals are function, comfort, durability and beauty. Although these are the most basic requirements for the furniture manufacturing industry, it is worth further study.

1. Practicality

The function of a piece of furniture is very important, it must be able to reflect its own existence value. If it’s a chair, it has to be able to keep your hips from touching the ground. If it’s a bed, it can make you sit on it and lie on it. The meaning of practical function is that furniture should contain the commonly accepted and limited purpose. People spend too much energy on the art decoration of furniture.

2.Comfort

A piece of furniture must not only have its proper function, but also have a considerable degree of comfort. A stone can make you not need to sit on the ground directly, but it is neither comfortable nor convenient, while the chair is the opposite. If you want to rest in bed all night, the bed must have enough height, intensity and comfort to ensure this. The height of a coffee table must be such that it is convenient for him to serve tea or coffee to the guests, but such a height is quite uncomfortable for dining.

3. Durability

A piece of furniture should be able to be used for a long time. However, the service life of each piece of furniture is also different, because it is closely related to their main functions. For example, leisure chairs and outdoor dining tables are outdoor furniture, and they are not expected to be durable as drawer panels, nor can they be compared with the lampstands that you want to leave for future generations.

Durability is often regarded as the only embodiment of quality. However, in fact, the quality of a piece of furniture is closely related to the perfect embodiment of each goal in the design, which includes another goal to be mentioned next: aesthetics. If it is a very durable but unsightly chair, or a very uncomfortable chair sitting on it, it is not a high-quality chair.

4. Attractiveness

In today’s handicraft shops, whether the appearance of the furniture is attractive or not is an important factor to distinguish skilled workers and bosses. Through a period of hard training, skilled workers can know how to achieve the three goals mentioned before. They have learned how to make a piece of furniture have the function, comfort and durability.
