Nowadays, solid wood furniture is welcomed by more and more consumers, but many unethical merchants, in order to benefit from the name of solid wood furniture, in fact, it is wood veener furniture.
Before distinguishing solid wood furniture and wood veemner furniture, we should first understand the essence of the both.
Solid wood furniture
That is to say, all materials used are solid wood, including desktop, wardrobe door panels, side panels, etc. are made of solid wood, and no other forms of wood-based panels are used.
Wood Veener Furniture
It looks like solid wood furniture in appearance. The natural texture, handle and color of wood are the same as that of solid wood furniture, but it is actually furniture mixed with wood-based panels, i.e. particleboard or MDF with veneer for the top, bottom and shelf of side panels.
How to Identify Wood Veener Furniture—The Scar
Look at the location of the scarred side, and find if there is a corresponding scar on the other side is solid wood.
The Grain
Generally, the surface of high-grade solid wood furniture is covered only with varnish to maintain the beautiful wood grain of logs. It can be judged whether the wood grain on both sides of a solid wood furniture panel or cabinet door panel is identical or whether the grain on the front and side of the furniture corresponds to the real solid wood furniture. If the wood grain is not right, then the probability of sticking is higher. Because the wood skin has a certain thickness (about 0.5mm), when making furniture, it encounters two adjacent interfaces, usually not turning, but sticking one piece each, so the wood grain of the two interfaces should not be joined.
The Cross Section
The cross-section grain of solid wood is clear, and the grain corresponds to the front, but it does not extend from the front grain, but is a section.
No matter how well the manufacturer’s surface work is done, the interior of the wood can be seen at the joints of furniture, such as hinge and rivet, so the “identity” of furniture can also be detected through these parts. Because today’s furniture is mosaic, very few pieces of wood are made, so there will be a slight difference in color. Unless it’s a paper veener or a fake, the color can be exactly the same. You can observe it carefully when you buy it.
