These Are the 5 Biggest Trends for Outdoor Decor, According to Etsy
Preparing to host friends and family at home again is exciting. It also presents an opportunity to update some areas of the home that may have been a little neglected, namely, outdoor spaces. Whether it’s a rug, pillow, seating, or umbrellas that need replacing, the possibilities are endless and can be overwhelming when shopping. Thankfully, everything doesn’t have to been done at once, and even small changes can make a big difference. We interviewed tastemaker and Etsy Trend Expert Dayna Isom Johnson for decor tips to make the most of outdoor entertaining this summer. We also got the scoop on Etsy’s Outdoor Sales Event, their most popular outdoor trends, the easy way to improve an entertainment space, and what she has updated at her own home.
Etsy’s 5 Biggest Trends for Outdoor Decor
“With warmer weather on the horizon, shoppers are eager to update their outdoor spaces to help them fully enjoy every moment soaking up the sun this summer,” Johnson said via email. Some of the popular outdoor trends she’s seeing on Etsy include:
- Outdoor bars
- Firepits
- Gardening items
- Outdoor lanterns
- Boho outdoor items
And now is the time to shop Etsy for these items. The company launched its first ever Outdoor Sales Event, which is ongoing through May 24. Participating sellers will be offering discounts up to 20% off on patio furniture, backyard entertaining essentials, lawn games, and more, the company said.
A Small Change That Has Big Impact
Johnson shared an easy update that makes outdoor entertaining more enjoyable. “One of the most important aspects of hosting is making sure every single one of my guests have a comfortable place to sit, lounge, and unwind,” she said. “If there’s one change shoppers can make to upgrade their outdoor entertaining space, it’s investing in quality outdoor furniture, or dressing up their existing furniture with comfy throws or cozy blankets for chilly summer nights.”
She focused on seating when updating her balcony recently. “Last year, I purchased a vintage rattan furniture set for my balcony, which I can’t wait to use again. I also plan to add more plants and herbs to my garden this summer—I want my patio to feel like a calming mini retreat, so I make sure to design with a lot of natural elements and lush greenery.”
Remember, small changes, like adding throw pillows, a rug, and enough seating can instantly spruce up a space. Now enjoy your summer.
